Paulo Augusto,
When most people think of infrastructure, things like bridges, roads, and power lines may immediately come to mind.  Our public school system is also a critical part of our nation’s infrastructure that desperately needs some attention.
This week, as working people celebrate infrastructure week we can’t overlook the important role our schools play in the prosperity of our communities and the health of our workforce. There’s a bipartisan push in Congress urging this administration to ensure that any new infrastructure package includes significant investment in our public schools. This administration needs to know that working people are watching, and we support the renewed commitment to our public education system(*).
In both the House and Senate, Republican and Democrat members of Congress alike, have signed onto letters urging the President to invest in public school infrastructure. Trade union leaders have also spoken up in support. This is a great start. Now it's up to working people to take action and hold the administration accountable.
Parents, teachers, and students aren’t the only ones who should be concerned with the state of our school system. School facilities impact student and staff health, academic achievement, the environment and even property values. Most of all, our schools prepare the next generation of our workforce to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
In solidarity,
Tom
